Having problems starting and idle, turn on ignition then have to wait 10 to 20 seconds before starting otherwise it won't start, then occasionally will start but cuts out and won't idle, this can happen when pulling up at a give way, I can hear the fuel pump running when I switch ignition on, but that to occasionally has a gushing sound like air in it. any ideas out there please

Maybe check fuel rail pressure and check that the fuel rail maintains the pressure, Having to wait before ignition implies the pump is having to re-establish pressure.
Perhaps get some diagnostics on it to check MAF/ IACV. But cd be a bunch of other things

ok - though just to be clear - the OBD-based diagnostics will not give you any info on fuel rail pressure - you'll need a gauge off ebay for that, not expensive though

Just an update on starting and idle problems it turned out to be a faulty ECU, so instead of having original ECU sent off for repair at a seriously high coast I decided to get a Mark Adams replacement ECU with his EPROM chip set installed, all I can say is that my 50th has never run so good, now runs cooler and with increased mid range power, so I am a very happy chappie. once again thank you to all those who gave advise.
