|
|
Hi all I have finally got around to looking at the aircon and it seems the condenser is the problem. My garage can’t get a replacement. A helpful earlier post had the part number (STC3963) but it appears this is now obsolete at Land Rover and the likes of Rimmer Bros and Craddocks get their stock of this type of thing directly, so can’t help. Has anyone got experience of any other sources or any ideas if these can be refurbished, as I understand the other Defender options sadly don’t seem to fit. Any ideas much appreciated. Thanks, Tony |

Try Rovers North in the US, it'll almost certainly be the same part as the 1997 NAS cars and Rovers North will either have stock of original or more likely a better alternative part available. |

Thank you NAS90 that’s a good idea I have dropped them an email to see what they might have and how much. |

Unfortunately I have tried lots of places in the US and no one seems to have this (Rovers North were the most helpful). Has anyone ever had any experience of getting something similar refurbished? Bit of a long shot. Many thanks again. Tony |

I had a failure on another car recently and found a company that does recons - but who also supplies new at much cheaper than I was being quoted by the main stealer. When I ordered - and asked them to deliver to the main stealer - they knew the address and who to send it to without my giving it to them which speaks volumes !
Worth a try:

Let me know how you get on As I suspect I may need a fix also. |

Thanks for the thought Oilit, very nice of you, unfortunately this company seems to work on compressors and a few seem to offer that but it doesn’t look like condensers, which seem problematic to get and I am yet to find anyone who does a refurbishment or an alternative. I am wondering if another model can be converted but again beyond my knowledge. |

My P38 one came from coolpartsuk on ebay and I think at the time I worked out that the rad came from https://www.adrad.co.uk/. Works fine... _________________ Rob

Hi Romanrob, thanks very much for this, I have called them and although they don’t have one they think they can build a replacement from the original so I am going to give that a try. Thanks for the idea and i’ll Let everyone know if it works out.

Just a quick update in case useful for anyone, I contacted Advanced Radiators as suggested by RomanRob and they were really helpful saying that could get the condenser copied. They came back and said they had in fact sourced one with very similar dimensions (2 inches shorter) and could add a welded bracket to make it fit correctly. This was also a fair bit cheaper at £210, half the price of the Land Rover part if it had been available. Next step to get it fitted (just in time for winter!?!). |

I have just found a place in the us that 'seems' to have some original NAS ones in stock - i will call them on Monday to see if they really do and let everyone know. |

Ok I did order the item and brought it back today - it’s the right genuine item - but a bit more expensive than the solution above £460
Anyone who needs a condenser pm me and I will happily share where I found them.
