Hi again!
While I'm on here I just thought of another one...
I was thinking I might treat my engine to synthetic oil on it's next change - anyone have any recommendations?
Do they come in like-for-like grades as normal oil?
And are they worth the extra money?
As I work from home, the Landy can spend upto a week at a time without being used (although I usually think of an excuse to run it more often than that!), and I have noticed that in the cold weather the oil light can take a few seconds to extinguish after starting, following a period of non-use. Is this to be expected, or should I be concerned?
May a synthetic oil help?
Questions, questions...
Thanks!
Adam. |

Hi,
I use Castrol GTX magnatec 10W-40 in mine. I dont think its fully synthetic but its good for the money. As i only do maybe 500 to 1000 mile between services it would be a wastes to put much more expensive oil in for me.
I think its well worth putting good oil in.
Best regards
James

And I thought I was a low-milage user!!
Or do you just service it every month?
I guess that's your excuse for having the V8 too!
I seem to remeber the ads for magnatec - that the oil clings to the top end for longer when standing, so sounds about right!
Thanks.

v8 are quiet happy having a good oil change every 6000 mile with no problems at all.
why waste money dooing it 500 to 1000 mile unless it's stood for a long time?
a standard good grade of semi synth works just fine.
fuly synth cost a bomb and you won't get any better out of you engine...
not on ally at any rate tuned or not.
non synth won't look after the seals as well as semi yet costs very little more to do.
heres a tip....
if you know of a local forktruck service dealer near you try using the lancer boss oil filters from them...they hold loads more oil about 2pints worth more!!!
also they have a magnet in the oil filter and fit a treat.
if you don't try attaching a magnet to the side of the oil filter you have...
i know it won't collect ally but any very small floating particals of steel or iron will collect on the filter side...
try it i was amazed what you get out! _________________ Sadly not a 50th member any longer more like a hanger-on if you know what i mean.
