Hello, I am looking to buy a 50th. I just wondered if there was anything specific that I should look for. I know my fair share about landies as ive had a number of them, but i thought I would ask the people who own them what it should and shouldn't have, specific problems to look out for etc

Any advice would be greatly appreciated
Thanks

My personal opinion is buy on condition, there are purists who will tell you originality is the most important and if you are collecting for profit they may be correct.

There are many UK spec 50ths that have now been restored out there, they attract premium prices but are generally worth the premium as restorations aren't cheap and some parts are getting harder to find.

Alternatively there are several 50ths coming back form Japan, which have lived in warm climates and are generally in much better original condition than the GB equivalents; they're also normally cheaper to buy than GB cars.

I've now had 4 different 50ths, two GB badged cars and two 50th badged cars (ex Japan) all great Defenders to own. Personally I've found the ex-Japan 50ths make a better value proposition when you look at condition vs. purchase price, but they are all going up in value and have been for a while so as long as you buy a good one you'll be fine in my view.
