Found an interesting website showing how many of each type of vehicle is left registered and SORN:
https://www.howmanyleft.co.uk/vehicle/land_rover_defender_50_v8_auto

It does also show a mysterious Defender 90 V8, which registrations took a leap in 1998, so probably would need to add the two model types together?

cheers
rob

Hi,

If you add the two together, as some were registered as just Defender V8 and some defender 50 V8 auto you get to 344.
Back in 2011 jimblowscash did a search and also came up with 344 so this is probably about the correct number..

OK, got that thanks.

That's also surprising, a loss of just 41 x 50ths in 20 years, via various routes, the obvious being total loss or exported

Just over 10%

The totals on their own can't really be taken at face value, there were more than 30 V8s listed prior to 1998 which obviously weren't 50ths so need to be deducted and some of the 50th coming back from Japan along with the NAS V8 Defenders from Japan, Middle East & USA markets over the years will be adding to the total.
