|
|
Karlsen Auto Design are extremely pleased to offer the rare opportunity to UK and International buyers with 'The Holy grail' of Defenders in the form of a Land Rover Defender 90 50th Anniversary 4.0L V8. With only 385 ever made this is Limited Edition number GB359. (385 reached the U.K. Hence the GB385) 1071 minus our U.K. allocation were produced.
The only V8 Automatic Defender ever produced from the Land Rover Factory. This was to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the highly collectable Defender. With production of the iconic Defender now ceased this is the last chance to obtain the best Defender ever made in it's finest form.
The Defender 50th Limited Edition has got to be one of the best defenders ever produced, and one of the most expensive with a price tag of £26,000 when it rolled out the showroom. The 50th combines comfort, performance and practicality, which makes it the ultimate 90 in terms of desirability. Land Rover only produced 385 on the British market it also makes them rare. This is a GB / UK numbered vehicle which is most important.
Interior features: One of the 50th’s most unusual features in the lack of a bulkhead between the drivers compartment and the rear load space, which gives the cabin a more spacious feel and allows more comfortable transport of passengers and more adjustment to the front seats.
The dashboard is better laid-out, which is a huge plus. The warning light remains visible in the sun, there is a rev counter and digital odometer to keep the clocks at bay.
Also to keep the cool and luxurious feel in summer it comes with air conditioning.
A host of extras have been added to the 50th, which are both useful and decorative. Inside the cabin there is extra soundproofing, an integrated centre console with built in cubby box and polished aluminium knob on the transfer gear selector and electric windows.
The steering wheel and auto selector has been covered in perforated leather to give the luxurious feel. Also because the fuel tank on the 50th is located to the rear it also has a storage box under the drivers seat.
Engine, transmission & handling:
The 50th comes with a four speed ZF auto ‘box and a mighty four litre V8 under the bonnet which combines to give a sense of power and smoothness. The acceleration is phenomenal with 184 bhp, yet the lavish soundproofing and cosseting ride give a very satisfying level of refinement and luxury.
The 50th has standard springs and shocks all round, but also anti-roll bars front and rear to keep the beast under control. But this also would explain the vehicles superb handling properties. And to stop the beast there are disk brakes all round and the fronts are vented.
A great thing is that the engine is looked after by a GEM’s engine management system, as used on Range Rovers. Because the BFG tyres ate only rated to go no more that 100mph the 50th has a restricter to limit to 99mph.
Exterior features:
On the exterior of the vehicle there is polished chrome side steps,
checker plate wing tops, sills and rear corner protectors. The best extra is the safari roll cage which is bolted to the chassie to provide excellent front cabin protection.
Also there is a NAS style rear step.
The 50th comes with 5 Pewter grey freestyle alloys (One spare on swing away rear Wheel carrier). It only comes in one colour, Atlantis blue, as this colour is reserved for special edition vehicles. To show it is a 50th it has a rear plaque, which is engraved with its production number, and a smaller version is on the centre console inside. Our vehicle is GB359.
This is by far the best 90 ever. I think when special vehicles took on the project they wanted to show how awesome the defender can be. So lets drink to the future and appreciate that Land Rover produced something very special in the the 50th Anniversary.
Our 50th Anniversary was originally supplied to Park Lane Land Rover in London and has 4 previous owners. An LPG conversion was carried out in 2010 and covered 7500 miles since then. The conversion is a neat twin 35L underbody tank set up, leaving the cabin untouched.
We also have the original Land Rover 50th Anniversary Folders including all receipts / invoices. Full Shukers Land Rover main dealer service portfolio stamped up. Two Land Rover remote keys and all locks are correct. At present it is in Soft Top form with all Hard top panels inclusive.
We are carrying out a Full restoration back to original Land Rover Specification. Many upgrades available please get in touch to discuss.
Should any purchasers want to work in conjunction with Karlsen Auto Design throughout the restoration process, we would be happy to alter/change any or all of the specification dependent upon clients budget. Please contact us via skype by adding us to your contacts - karlsenautodesign - Email info@karlsenautodesign or Call. 07775 955 325.
If you are reading this we are sure you appreciate the caliber of vehicle and Investment potential. You may be wanting to add this to your vehicle portfolio.

I think the owners of the several hundred Automatic Transmission NAS specification Defenders from 1997 might beg to differ on that one!
Great Defenders though they are, the UK 50ths are 385 of a total of more than a 1,000 Anniversary Defenders produced and all of them are realistically very similar in specification to all the 1997 NAS Defenders that preceded them so they aren't quite as unique as some owners try to portray.
If you were selling a 1997 NAS of similar fully restored condition your asking price of £69,000 would be quite reasonable; for a 50th Anniversary it is certainly testing the upper limits of the market, but I (like many owners I suspect) sincerely hope you are successful with that asking price as it will set a new price president that can only benefit us when we move our ones on. |

The way its being sold is that it is being brought back to Land Rover specification after a full rebuild
Then they are happy to remove this selling point and fitting upgrades at an extra cost ?
Opinions?? |

Yes we are able to discuss options with any potential buyer regarding upgrades & customisation. We are mindful of missing something in these initial stages.
Forward facing rear seats? We would say this is a welcome addition although right now we are staying as they were intended. These are areas open for discussion.
In car entertainment? Again many options available but should we stick to standard.
Reverse Camera? Latest dash pod? Wheel upgrades? Suspension upgrades? Engine upgrades? The customisation is endless as your all aware.
We also wish to set a new precedent in all Defenders be it the sale value or the restored finished product.
We have been wary of registering it on here. After deliberation we decided it best & transparency be seen from the outset.
We begged the owner to sell some time ago. He finally decided to let it come to ourselves, knowing our intention & wished us all the best.
We have had success in delivering restored vehicles in the U.K. & overseas marketing in this manner. _________________ Karlsen Auto Design - We buy, sell & source the Worlds finest vehicles (Restoration Division)

Good luck with your sale.
I can see how you might have been hesitant to advertise on here as most members are geekily expert on this model. So, a few inches shorter on the verbosity might have endeared you to them. After all, they know what a 50th is about.

It will be very interesting to see what it does sell for as I think the highest so far is £42,000.
Has it got the standard 4.0l engine in still? One of the previous overs did put a 4.8 in but was thinking about swapping it back when he sold. _________________ James

Yes it's the 4.0L engine. More thank happy doing a possible engine upgrade in some form though.
It's all dependent whom wants the vehicle & their requirements. _________________ Karlsen Auto Design - We buy, sell & source the Worlds finest vehicles (Restoration Division)

A 50th is about originality
The first thing I did was ditch the LPG and stupid loud catless pipes
Now back to factory levels
Each owner to there own I have a S2 Bowler to play and tweak plus my absolute standard Autobiography _________________ GB165-now

For the asking price; i'd be expecting
new galvanised chassis and bulkhead (coated appropriately to look standard)
refurbished axles suspension and running gear.
Reconditioned engine and gearbox.
New refurbished interior in the correct cloth.
Full professional respray; with all body work sorted.
All brakets etc refurnished (coated appropriately to look standard)
Roll cage (rust proofed and recoated - underneath too)
PLUS all original parts (side steps, correct steering wheel etc.)
It would have to be totally original for the asking price.
I'm not a purist - my own 50th doesn't have the originality appeal - and is tailored to suit my own taste - and upgrades but from a price point of view - collectors would expect 100% original (IMO) |

I agree and funnily enough I have one with that spec that will be for sale shortly after rebuild, not sure what price I will be asking though |

For that price I'd expect a nearly new Range Rover.
But of course......I could have one.....for that price.
