I almost bought a 50th Defender - in good nick with 66,000 miles priced at 15,000. Then I read your comments on the bottom falling out of the market - and thought I was paying too much. I pulled out of the deal but still want one.
I have a 110 V8 which is great fun but a bit tatty for some outings.
Does anyone know of any 50th Defenders for sale in good nick - with no modifications (except maybe a gas conversion)?
I am based in Cambridgeshire but happy to travel.
Thanks.

Many thanks James - I will follow up on that.

Rogers of Bedford also think they have one coming in soon - similar spec and same price so I think we did the right thing by cancelling the first one we saw.

I'll keep you posted.

Good luck in your search.

i would look at private ones as you will get much better value.

Re Rogers of Bedford i have seen 4 or 5 50th they have been selling and have not been impressed with any of them, all were bad condition for the price.

All the best,

James

Which one is yours on the register? How long are you likely to take building the 110. Patience is not my strongest point!!

Cheers

Hi
Just phoned for more details on the one advertised in autotrader.
Misprint in advert and has done 80,000 miles.
Have asked that they rework the price.
It is in Manchester.

Rogers of Bedford have not got back to me yet.

There is another one - at Dunsford but cannot get any info until Monday.

Frustrating!!

Is the Dunsfold one on there site, GB 127, if it is i think its sold. Im sure i have spoken to the new owner somewhere.

Would be worth waiting for a low milage one, there are a few about.

Will keep my eyes and ears open for you

Best regards

Hi

I have actually bought one today.
Went to James French in Oxford and bought no 209.
It is the defender that featured in the LRO November 2002. The supercharged one! Not sensible - probably not practical but once I test drove it there was no option!
I collect it next Sat.
James French has put a whole years guarantee on it so must be very confident about its condition.
The only possible snag will be on Monday when I phone my insurers about it.
On a quirky note the 110 broke down on the way to Oxford (alternator packed up) the AA were brilliant - within an hour of phoning them I was repaired and on my way.

Many thanks for all the helpful tips and advice James002.

Cheers.

Well done. Bit of a mad choice! From going to wanting one with no mods and gas to gettting a hightly modded petrol guzzler!

I'm sure it is a great drive!

All the best

James

If it's the one i'm thinking of it is the 4.6 supercharged water injected one with front and rear ARB diff locks and a nice alloy tank on the inner rear wheel arch that hold the water for the water injection. And has road tyres rather than AT's with a perforated alloy steering guard, A bar and spots, and range rover seats in it...

Belonged to Jim Jackson if memory serves correctly....

0 - 60 in about 7.5 seconds....!!!

and 120 mph top...

That article (again if it is the same one) was what spurred me on to buy my 50th's. I still have the magazine here somewhere...

If it is...

You lucky lucky bugger...!!!

Congratulations...

Yes Jim Jackson was the owner who had all the mods carried out.
I am currently having huge problems getting insurance sorted. So far have been turned doen flat!
It would appear that JJ only had it insured as a normal 50th!!

Oops.
Is this going to be where the bubble bursts and it won't be mine at all?
Short dream if it does!!

Hi there, thought insurance might be fun. I'm sure it can be done but at a premium.

Look, i dont want to try to put you off if its what you really want, but i personally wouldnt buy it. I would buy a nice standard low milage one and make it how you want it. There are the 2 today that have posted about selling theres, 17k miles one and 25k one. Pay 14,000 then if you want it to go faster have it chipped and re-geared, that will be 1,500 tops. then you have a nice 50th, that will be a pleasure to drive and easy to sell on.

This 4.6 supercharged one i'm sure is fun. But with 90,000 miles on the clock how long before somethings goes wrong, as its supercharged i'm sure the engine life is reduced. Then if you want to sell it it will have lots more miles and the next person will have the same insurance problems. That thing must guzzle the fuel too.
I dont know what price you agreed with them but for the 17k asking price you could make a nice low milage one how you want it.

Anyways, thats my thought, dont want to put you off if its what you want, but thought i would say what i thought

Best regards

James

wouldnt mind the charger if you can get it...
hehehehehehe

have you tried sure term direct...?
they insure mine and it's not a bad price to say the least, further more it's modified to the hilt.
ok so no charger or 4.6 under the bonnet but even so....just a thought.

best of luck.
