When starting my truck from cold, the fuel pump comes in runs then stops as expected, Ithen crank the engine and it doesnt fire.
I then repeat for 4-6 times and it then fires into life.
Is it low battery ?
Temp sensor ?
Idle valve?
Air intake sensor ?
Or anything else??

Its fine once started if I switch off and try again, and also fine when warm

It's not battery, that seems fine as its cranking the engine. It might be old or fouled plugs perhaps or a fuelling issue.

it could be the fuel pump. Mine always started well from cold but would require several cranks when warm. I could hear the fuel pump priming - but as it turns out it wasn't getting the required pressure. New fuel pump after it finally failed, and no starting problems.

Buccaneer - Mine is the opposite as its fires perfect when warm. Question Question
I am croosing fingers that its nothing to do with the pump. On my truck I had to use a steel fuel tank and have used a new R/R 3.9 pump when I built it. Thats why I dont want to keep putting unnecessary pressure on the pump.

Culminator - I have had an issue on an old CSK where the battery was weak, but turned the engine over, but other electrics didnt get the amps and that made starting difficult. My BBUS bleeps twice whilst cranking sometimes, which I think is to tell you it has low power ???

Well that's true, you do need enough juice in the battery to fire the ecu but I'd be surprised if it's the battery.

Well i finally got my act together and plugged Autologic in and found that there were no readings from the airflow meter. So assume this will be causing my cold starting issue. Anyone disagree?

Where is the best place to get a good one from??

Don't even consider getting a MAF from Land Rover - the price will make your eyes water.

http://www.lrdirect.com/ERR5595-Air-Flow-Meter/

The LR Part is around £1,000 or the Allmakes part £82.16

Assume you have checked all the connectors first and given them a good clean?

Update

Was taking up to 20-30 cranks to start!!
Last week couldn't get it to go, so had a friend put his diagnostics on it and the coolant temp read 76 degrees............when engine cold !!!
No wonder it wouldn't start - ECU thinks engine is warm and therefore doesnt trigger choke. So immediately thought the new temp sensor was duff. SO got a genuine one in the week and checked it today.

Fitted it and no real difference - so is it in ECU ?( I have Tornado chip etc)

Fitted spare gems ecu and that immediately read correct temperature and the engine fired straight away, choke mode was in operation too !!
One thing noted was fuel pump to longer to prime than before with original ECU.
Only issue is throttle position is at 12.9 degrees and engine is revving at approx 1700 rpm !! Is this amended on Autologic??
Will the Tornado chip be the issue or other part of ECU.
Getting peed off as want to drive it........... Sad

Well received ECUs back from Tornado Systems.
Had a spare Gems ECU unlocked for 4.0L so I can keep as a spare.
Another Gems ECU with my Chips transferred onto it and ready to rock - just had to swap the backplate casing over from the dud ECU so that the replacement fitted into the bracket in the engine bay.
5x T20 screws to remove backing on each, so a quick swap then fitted, plugged in then re-connect wiring plugs to airflow meter and Air temp sensor on air box and then ignition on .......
Fuel pump primes......
and Vroooooom she wakes up on first try for the first time in .........I have lost count! Shocked

Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy
Now need my air filter bracket back from being copied by my neighbour for mass production........ Wink

Then MOT !!

Isn't it satisfying when you put something on to fix a problem and it actually works :)

bit of a hi-jack to the post; is your neighbour copying any other 50th specific brackets such as the ECU bracket; etc?

Mine is a bit rusty and could do with a refresh... a nice shinny new one might be nicer.

Will you be posting list and prices on here soon?
