Good old AF Ins got 2 replies in 13 months, crack open the old champers ,.

I sold a Cooper S to a mate, she got a fair quote from Direct Line last year but decided to stay with Aviva (NU as was)

6 months ago, straight forward hit in rear at lights, claimed direct against offending Insurer, did not report to hers, all authorised, free car. nothing to pay, job done ..

Approached Direct Line 2011, any accidents ? disclosed the aforementioned - result - NO QUOTE due to adverse claims history ..

You can't negotiate with a dumb computer or even dumber computer programmer

I was stupid enough to tell the insurance company about accidents at work because I was told (at work) that I would be subject to disciplinary procedures if it was found I had not.

I later found out that they ran their own bond/insurance and as thus didn't need to tell my car insurance people. None of the other bus drivers do, including that one who took the roof off and nearly decapitated 4 passengers merely by forgetting they were in a double than single deck...

So they know about the 2 I've had on the buses. All the others weren't my fault anyway... Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

This subject can go on for ever

Local Waste Company Fleet, paying approx 70,000 premium were offered a scale of bonus for a profitable year by their Ins Co, on the lines of :

lf claims paid or outstanding don't exceed 25% of premium for the year you get a 10% refund at renewal

lf claims paid or outstanding don't exceed 26-35% of premium for the year, you get a 7.5% refund at renewal

lf claims paid or outstanding don't exceed 36-40% of premium for the year, you get a 5% refund at renewal

My mate "Scania", who drives a 44 ton Scania Bulker Artic for them got an official letter from their HR dept stating in clear terms from the MD his artic cost 7000 a year to insure and that that if he did not have an accident or claim, he would be passed the maximum discount of 10% as a bonus, and all the drivers were promised this, on a scale of gvw and relevent annual premium

A year on, it worked - but just one single ONE accident, multi fatal fault accident, hands up, likely to cost that Insurer 500- 700k wiped out the total premium

So one driver out of 16 had a claim, 15 did not and a trucker looking at his HR Dept Head, looking like his actions just cost him somthing in the region of 7000 with no support as Ins Co bonus, blown

Nice work, Einstein

Just insured my 110 version of 50th in black !

445 fully comp on 5000miles per year with my partner added aswell.
Probably should have rung around maybe ????? Problem is they said that my 'no claims' had run out due to not having a vehicle for a couple of years, but they were happy to continue it if I took their insurance !!

Just tried Adrian Flux but they were over 100 dearer (more than 50%) on a like-for-like even with the Forum discount.

Robert, the good thing about Adrian Flux is that you can add on all sorts of modifications, whereas most insurers wouldn't even be interested, let alone raising the price. I had a Shogun a few years ago that I added wide wheels to. My insurers refused to insure it, and I had to find a new company! I had an incredibly-modified V8 auto Defender 90 many years ago that no one would take on. All Adrian Flux asked was for a fax of the list of mods. They took it on no problem, and for a decent price.

For the first time I thought I would investigate agreed value cover.

After a lot of digging around, only Adrian Flux and Lancaster appeared to offer the agreed value.

In the end I went with Adrian Flux. They got it all wrong to begin with, but eventually sorted it out.

Just a word of warning - make absolutely certain the agreed value is included. I found out afterwards that AF had sold me an ordinary policy without agreed value. In the end they admitted the mistake and covered the extra cost for a linked policy from Qudos that provides the agreed value element.

All they needed was 7 photos and a simple form filling in. They agreed the value I asked for within 24 hours.

Annual cost for all this turned out to be about 260 (I got it even cheaper due to their mistake), but overall I would recommend them.

Certainly sleeping better knowing that if the worst should happen, I wont be arguing with an insurer who wants to pay 5k as its "just an old Defender".

Just want to reiterate what Mark says. I've just re-insured with Adrian Flux. It was 229. However, I have asked for a valuation of 35,000 on my 50th, and they are sending me the forms. This added only 8 to the cover. I cannot stress enough how important it is that you make sure your 50th is properly covered, and as Mark says, not valued as some 18 year-old Land Rover!

If a claim should ever have to be made for total loss, their assessor apparently looks at the value of similar 50ths sold recently. I'll know more about this when I get the forms. So even though I say it's worth 35,000 they still do look at sold prices (according to the girl I have just spoken at length with on the phone).

I was running a thread some time back on current 'for sale' prices. Unfortunately, it got lost among the ordinary threads and didn't get 'stickified'. I will again ask James if we can have a sticky thread that shows all the 50ths for sale that we know about, since this affects total loss pay-out prices. We all love our 50ths, but after all is said and done, they have a monetary value, and that affects us all.
