After much consideration, I have decided to sell my Defender 50th number GB152. It has been a fantastic vehicle and it will be sorely missed... but rising fuel prices and poor fuel economy leave me with little choice.

The vehicle is in very good overall condition. There are a few minor bubbles in the paintwork around some of the bolts/rivets, like so many others have. The chassis is in good condition and has been waxed. The only modifications from standard 50th specification are the addition of electric windows and a steering guard. It also has a black powder-coated A-bar to match the external roll cage. I have rubber mats in both foot wells and a large rubber mat in the rear to protect the original carpets. It still has the original Land Rover radio cassette unit. I will also include a set of stainless steel door bolts and clear indicator/brake lamp units (these have not been fitted).

I have the original 50th Anniversary owners manual and service record with 15 stamps from Land Rover dealers/specialists. I have spent over 2K in the last twelve months on servicing, new plugs/leads, new catalyst, tracking, new dash binnacle and radiator re-core. I have invoices from Team Valley Land Rover for all of this work.

It's a good clean 50th but it's not in concourse condition (and no longer has the ally window winders or transfer gear knob). I am looking for offers over 9500 but I've also listed it on eBay with a lower start price to try to drum up some interest. (eBay item number 290401288883).

It's been a great vehicle to own but I've decided it's time to move on.

Hi Geoff,

Sorry to hear your selling. You have presented it well for sale and i'm sure it will go quick as not many are for sale atm.

Thanks James. There's been a bit of interest already and I'll keep you updated.

Mac, that wasn't me in Morpeth although I am not far away - just down the road in Newcastle!

Yes, I'd spotted your location was Newcastle, hence my query.
There are 3 50th's around Morpeth and there is a fourth which is owned by someone who lives here but it is usually kept in France. This other one that was spotted last week was none of them so it might now be 5!

Wow! I had no idea there were so many oop North! In over one year of ownership, have yet to see another 50th on the roads. One of my work colleagues told me he went shooting with some of his friends about a year ago and they used something that sounded suspiciously like a 50th. He said it was blue, with a roll cage and an auto box... maybe one of the four you know of or perhaps the mystery 5th North East 50th!

I've got num 340, live in Gateshead. I knew there was one other in the area (Team Valley Land Rover guys mentioned it) but had no idea there were 3 or 4 others! Shocked

That's correct without mentioning names or exact locations, your colleague obviously moves in high circles. . . ! It lives on an estate up here and is primarily used as a shooting hack Rolling Eyes

Yes, that's definitely the one then! But I'm still shocked that there are so many around here. Mahhy, have you had yours for long? The guys at Team Valley seemed genuinely excited about having my 50th in last year because I don't think they'd worked on a V8 for ages!

A shameless bump for my 50th that is currently for sale on here and on eBay!

I am beginning to get slightly nervous about the eBay auction, which ends today in a couple of hours (eBay item number 290401288883). I was quite confident that it would fetch much more than the starting bid so I didn't bother with a reserve price. Unfortunately, I have had nothing but trouble with the listing for the last couple of days...

The highest bidder asked to cancel his bid because he reckoned his eBay account had been hacked and someone else had therefore bid from his account without his knowledge. This prompted the next highest bidder to retract his own bid because he had since bought another vehicle when he was been 'outbid' by the first chap. Inevitably, this prompted a flood of questions regarding the condition of the vehicle because everyone had seen two bids cancelled within minutes of each other!

I don't want to mess anyone around so I will honour the winning bid when the auction ends this afternoon. It looks like someone will get themselves an extremely cheap 50th at this rate.

Bidder Action / Explanation Date of Bid and Retraction
v***t( 1 ) Cancelled: 9,100.00
Explanation:User did not wish to bid on this item. Bid:16-Feb-10 20:40:20 GMT
Cancelled: 19-Feb-10 12:23:41 GMT
t***e( 0 ) Retracted: 9,000.00
Explanation:Seller changed the description of the item Bid:15-Feb-10 11:23:35 GMT
Retracted: 19-Feb-10 12:49:08 GMT

Ebay can be great, or a nightmare

I think the common factor with the 2 retracted bids were that they came from a pair of virgin Ebayers with a total of 1 star between the pair of them - who bottled it

Block bids from anyone with less than 10 positives. You may miss out on some potentials but you will certainly miss wasters like these 2.

GB152 has now sold on eBay, as noted in previous posts. I am sure lots of forum members were watching the auction with interest, judging from the number of people watching the item on eBay!

Without wishing to state the obvious, I would definitely not recommend selling a vehicle on eBay unless you are absolutely desperate... and are prepared to put up with lots of hassle and people generally being unreliable. In the end, my 50th went to a dealer from West Sussex who was a pleasure to deal with and I am quite satisfied with the outcome.

I know a lot of members will have been disappointed to see a 50th in an eBay auction and I am sure a lot of you will have been equally disappointed to see me sell it for such a low price. I am moving abroad in less than a month and a needed to sell the Land Rover quickly, even if it meant not getting the best price for it. Although GB152 has been a great vehicle, I have tried to be honest about it's condition in the adverts and it does need servicing as well as MOT and tax in a few weeks. So, I am satisfied that I got a fair price under the circumstances and I hope it finds a new home with someone who can appreciate it.

Good luck to you all!

Smile
