Hi all, looking for some help.

I use my 50th as my primary car and daily commuter. Having had it for a while now and having read everything on here I can, it looks like LPG is a pretty good option. There are plenty of stations around me that supply it, so that is not a worry.

Having read all the threads on here it seemed RPI were the go to guys - I have contacted them and they can do it, but have said all the ones they have fitted so far take up the load area - which I can't do as I use the whole space daily.

I have seen one and read about others on here which have twin under slung (45ltr I think) tanks, meaning you donít lose any room inside the car and you canít see the tanks. I have mentioned this to RPI but they would need more information about this setup - so I'm now a bit stuck!

Could anyone tell me the name of a company/people used to fit the under slung tanks as it must be possible? Or is anybody able to provide any information that would enable RPI to do this? Any help/guidance whatsoever would be great.

I'm based near Oxford, but happy to travel to get the right job done properly.

Thanks in advance

Ted

Ted,

Mine has twin under-slung tanks so no intrusion into the load bay. They don't affect the side steps either. It was fitted from about a year old and I don't think the original fitters are still about (I'll see if I can find the details tonight).

I used the LPG when I used the 50th as a daily driver but now it's only for local use so I haven't used it for a while. As I might need a top end rebuild I keep meaning to get a quote off someone for a top end rebuild and also strip all the LPG off it back to original. Want some old under-slung tanks? Don't know if the age makes them unusable?

Jonathan

Thanks very much Jonathan, that would be great.

Thanks for the offer, but I think the tanks are the cheapest part of the process as I won't be doing it myself - but I will bear that in mind.

Ted,

Had a look at the old certificate. System was installed in 2000 by AGF 4x4 Ltd. Looks like the system is Star-Gas and the tanks are showing as GGL (2 x 36L).

So smaller tanks but I guess that mans there's no modification under there?

Hi Ted,

System fitted XLR8 LPG

My 50th has 5 tanks fitted (total 225 litres, approximately) from previous owner, 2 under body tanks, with side steps still fitted (no mods). 2 tanks above rear wheels, with trim boxes and storage areas hiding them, The fifth tank is between the front seats and rear load area (directly underneath full internal roll cage. So in total lpg and petrol my 50th carries roughly 300 litres - 65 gallons of fuel.

I would say you could fit a three tank system without taking too much internal space up, just simply by not fitting the two rear tanks above the wheels. Ie two external tanks and one beneath the internal roof cage. Or two tanks 45 litres, one each side, slung up high in chassis for protection and looks, slightly visible through side steps, but not much.

The owner overcame the rear load space issue, by fitting an internal slide tool box and mounting two leather rear facing seats above the box.

All I can say is get a multi valve injection system fitted (I believe this provides a little petrol too - not 100% sure) this lubricants the engine and supercharger slightly when using LPG ???

My LPG system has worked fine for five years and longer with the past owner. Itís cheap at 62p a litre which equates to about 36 miles a gallon in petrol terms.

Your not a million miles from me (Iím in Northamptonshire) so your welcome to pop around or call me via WhatsApp and I will show you via video call.

The system was fitted by Steve Spinks, Discovery Developments in Lincolnshire PE11 3SR Tel: 01775 640 160. Speak to Steve heís a very nice man, always helpful and extremely knowledgeable. I would use him again and again, heís worked on mine and hundreds of other specialists Land Rovers. I need to see him soon for a new tank gauge Smile
