You should be able to turn fan easily when engine is not running and cold.
Get some stiff cardboard and by carefully putting into fan when engine at temperature. If you over power the fan then it needs replacing if it flicks cardboard away then its ok.

So the fan comes on and runs when you turn it on for the first two mins.

Placing newspaper in it won’t stop it, rips paper apart.

Then when fan stops after initial 2 mins running, fan still free wheels and then the newspaper stops it dead

Advice very welcome

maybe the valve / bi metallic strip are sticky (at first) and could be freed off with some WD40; and tried again next time its cold.
