Yesterday a Ford Sierra used the rear of my 50th as a brake...

I am in need of a new rear step, insurance are paying for it.

I can see around the internet genuine NAS steps, they all have black chequer on them, I would like it to be standard really.

Do any of you have advice as to how I could get a NAS step with the correct chequer on it?

They may not be genuine NAS; as i believe the one fitted to the 50ths were the first and original copy of the NAS and may be different as to where they fit around the fuel tank. (i'm not 100% certain)

Others may be "genuine" as far as Genuine Land Rover but for later Land Rovers.

The 50th has a different cross member compared to later versions.
You can buy chequer plate separate for the later style.

Thanks for the detailed reply.

Does anyone think it matters much if it is not the original? If the originals are no longer for sale, I kind of think, at least go for the best available genuine Land Rover part?

I'll have it checked to see if it fits, appreciate the heads up.

Commiserations on the damage to your 50th, it is bloody annoying when it happens.

An original NAS rear step will have a 2" receiver style tow bar mount, not the UK style one, so if yours if a GB car you'll need the "NAS Style" rear step rather than the original NAS step (the rest of world 50ths use the original NAS Step).

Paddock sell an OEM rear step that fits straight on the 50th and any decent fabrication shop could make you a 3mm chequer plate to replace the rubber one that they come with.

I am sure you've already considered it, but if the step is badly bent i'd get the chassis checked carefully just to be sure the forces haven't gone through it and bent it further along.

Thanks NAS90.

Great mind think alike, had Fosstec (local Landy specialist) crawl all over it - he did find that there was a dent in the rear of the tub, so that will need sorting as well.

Thanks V8GPC

Very informative link - I'm really pleased to see that the tread plate is a separate part.

Yep, got that link, sent a message to the seller who informs that it will be screw hole correct for the standard part.

Just need now the go ahead from the other guys insurance to get buying.

There is going to be a bit of painting to be done, so will buy a new rear door and get that sprayed at the same time.

Cheers.

I see my rear step has popped up on here that I am selling on eBay.
I have a couple but once they are gone that’s all my stock gone.

Wow not seen a Sierra in a long time, bet that was a mess!

The 50th step is unique and I haven’t seen any aftermarket ones before, anyone a link to the OEM paddocks one?
The stays to the fuel tank are the unique bit.

Will take some pics of my spare if I get a chance.

These are last of my stock which I used when I restore 50th’s.
I also have some spare original speaker covers too and an original speaker which I am selling.
