I've had a problem with my 50th for a couple of months that has been slowly getting worse. The new exhaust doesn't affect it. It's the same as before.

When the engine is cold, the idle is around 800-900 RPM, but when it gets warm the idle (in neutral) is up over 1000 and even as high as 1500 rpm.

Does anyone know what commonly causes this problem? I did a quick search and people have mentioned a stepper motor or stepper valve problem. I'm not sure what a stepper is, let alone how it could affect idling.

Can anyone shed some light on this fast idle problem? Thanks in advance.

I had a similar problem a while back and swapped stepper motor which didn't cure it, in the end the garage solved it, apparently there was a couple of air leaks in the inlet system after the MAF. Probably why every join and seal is covered in blue sealant now.

Mine did that in the past. It went after I changed maf sensor.

I'm posting this update in case anyone has a similar problem in future.
The root cause of the fast idling when warm was the throttle potentiometer. Swapped it out and the idling issue went away immediately. It was a bit of a journey to get there (replacement of two exhaust sensors which were shwoign faults and a Air Flow Sensor which probably wasn't faulty).

Anyway - happy now.
