Hi all,

I've an issue with GB168 whereby it's idling at 2000rpm, not the normal 800rpm which it usually does. I've cleaned the throttle body, looked for split hoses (air leaks...) but no joy.

Anyone have any words of wisdom ?

Ive got a similar issue.
Does it happen all the time? or just when the engine is warm? Also - how is the throttle response out of junctions - Immediate or hesitation?
thanks
rob

Hi,

It happens all the time - from cold and after a run. It's constantly running at 2000rpm. It drives fine, no hesitation and is smooth but just has this annoying 'racing' of the engine.

I had this with GB343 when I owned it. It was the thermostat jammed open on mine, so the engine never 'thought' it was reaching temperature. Replaced and resolved. Might be worth checking that out.

Quick update:-

RPM is now around the 1000/1200 mark - cold and hot - no idea why its dropped from 2000 rpm. I've change the thermostat for a genuine new one - no change. Cleaned the MAF etc and inside the plenum/Throttle Body Sensor (removed it to take a look but not much to see). Checked for vacuum leaks and can't find anything obvious. No codes being displayed on the scanner - just a simple handheld one. Odd. Might just replace the TBS as its pretty cheap and after reading up on this issue on dedicated V8 forums it is a known cause of what I'm experiencing. Also, when I remove the plug from it, nothing happens rev's wise...we will see.

Idle Air Valve - stepper motor
http://new.lrcat.com/#!/1228/13789/14762/1155/14956

The temp sensor can be read when connected to Autologic or other diagnostics. I changed mine for no reason at all as found out with diagnostics that the temp being read was around 70 degrees from cold start in a cold barn. Connected old sensor to loom and got same reading. Turned out an issue with ECU. I now have a spare ecu unlocked for mine - saves a lot of hassle and money when sorting issues. The ecu fitted had Tornado chip, the spare is standard.

Quick update...

I've read the codes and had the following -

P0102 - Mass or Volume Air Flow A Circuit Low
P0122 - Throttle / Pedal / Position Sensor / Switch A Circuit Low
P0113 - Intake Air Temperature Sensor 1 Circuit High

To recap, I've changed the following :-

- MAF (secondhand, via eBay) - no difference
- New Genuine Crankcase Breather Hose - noticed it was split...no difference
- New ERR4352 Land Rover Range Rover V8 Idle Air Control Valve IAC Stepper Motor - no difference
- New Throttle Position Sensor TPS - no difference

I've reset the codes now and RPM is still hovering around 1000/1100rpm. I'm going to replace the Intake Air Temp Sensor next...when I find a supplier...
