New member here and I thought I would introduce myself. I have been looking for a 50th Anniversary Defender for a few weeks and may have found (a Japanese) one in the UK. But, problem, I am from Belgium. They are asking here for some certificate of conformity but the seller only has the V5 and the MoT certificate....
Would you know if I can get something official from Jaguar Land Rover (even for a Japanese one) ?

Thanks a lot for your help.... and this excellent forum !

Hi and welcome to the forum!

'European whole vehicle type approval' for which a certificate of conformity applies, would never have been issued on a Japanese spec 50th and Land Rover won't issue you one against your VIN (chassis number).

Although very similar in specification, For example, The factory Japanese exhaust (same as NAS 90s), would never have met European drive-by noise regulations, hence why it is different on Euro spec 50ths.

In the UK we have a process called IVA (individual vehicle approval) for the personal importation of individual vehicles ( typically grey imports from Japan).

I think investigating if Belgium has a similar process is your best bet.

I hope this is some help!

Thank you very much for taking the time Greg, much appreciated.

I have heard pretty much the same story here. We also have some sort of IVA but it looks like it will be a very long (and expensive) process as it usually requires to change quite a lot on the car (and prove that you are using genuine parts.... which you obviously cannot find...)

A last thing if I may: are the UK spec 50th's issued with a European type approval number ? You can check this on the VIN plate (think it is under the bonnet), the number above the VIN number should start with a "e" or a "E".

Could anybody have a quick look for me ?

Once again, thank you very much for your help and the warm welcome !

Just to add, an IVA in the UK is only required for cars under 10 years old but I was just thinking there maybe a similar process for you!

Greg,

May I insist Wink and ask you whether 'British' 50th's have been issued with a European type approval (and/or if I can ask Land Rover to provide me with a Certificate of Conformity) ?

I may have found one and want to make sure before I pull the trigger Very Happy

Thanks !!!
