Quite unbelievably, it's been over 8 years since I sold GB331.

And I sort of knew it was a mistake from the moment I parted with it. I've done many a happy mile in a couple of 90 Pumas since, but 4 cylinders and diesel vs. a V8 and an auto box - it's never felt quite as special.

So, I'm back - say hello to GB036.

It's not one that's been known to James or the forum but it surfaced recently - and it's an extremely lucky find. James kindly came to view it with me:
One owner.
It's completely standard (Original Radio, genuine seat covers and mats from new). The side steps were taken off at PDI and supplied with the car because they were 'too shiny for a Land Rover'.
Even the tool roll 'has the factory bow on it' (James' spotted that one).

Basically, the original owner bought it for his wife who did 1000 miles in the first year in it. She didn't get on with it, so he bought her a Discovery instead and the 90 basically got laid up, but was wheeled out for an MOT almost every year.
It's done 6,662.7 miles

It's needs a bit of paint as it stood outside for a few years, so the roof has suffered from lacquer peel and the paint on the crossmember has faded to nothing (they all do that sir), but just feels so lovely and 'tight' and untouched. The chassis and interior are just like brand new.

I'm extremely happy indeed and this will be a slow burn to get this back to brand new. I think James was just as excited over this find as me! I have a smile from ear to ear today!

Looks a lovely motor. Welcome back to the club, owning one of the best defenders.

Very happy your back in the club, I'm going to be kicking myself soon that I didn't sell one of mine and buy it, but to pass the opportunity on to you seemed the right thing to do Very Happy

It's a wonderful vehicle that has probably never seen a salty road, a bit of light renovation and it will be amazing.

Wow, Greg, that is an extremely lucky find. I'm chuffed for you, but more than a little envious. I'm actually in agreement about the side steps (never thought they looked right), but you must have one of the most original 50ths. That interior looks damn good.

Thanks everyone, it's good to be back!

I forgot to say, it even had a Spice Girls cassette in it - very 1990s!

James - I promised to take great care of her! Like GB002, without the Byng bling!
V8GPC - Not sure I want to disclose, but perhaps unsurprisingly I did sell my puma 90 to get her.......It was a very different story back in 2005 when I bought GB331!

Wow, superb find! I bet you are over the moon. They look so good as the factory intended. Congratulations.

I used mine all weekend carrying bikes and 'stuff' for my triathlon around Hever Castle. So many looks and stares as I rumbled past the pub gardens all around the area. Can't help but smile when you drive these V8's!

Welcome back mate, what a fantastic fine.

I would be worried about putting miles on the clock, I guess you are planing to use it and not wrap it up in cotton wool.

Hopefully we can meet up at a get together somewhere be good to see it in the flesh and catch up. That's if I still have mine. Smile

Hi Greg,

Welcome back.

What a fantastic find - you lucky boy! Still got mine although GB149 is in bits at present undergoing a complete body makeover, hopefully back on the road later on in the year.

Hopefully catch up at some event sometime soon, look forward to it!

All the best,

Simon

Thanks all.

It's just had a 24k 'B' service (at 6712 miles!) including the auto box filter that gets done on the first 24k service only. Absolute clean bill of health except 2 shock bushes that have been done.

Interesting the alarm was intermittenty playing up - transpired it was the BBUS (battery backed up siren). Apparently the NiCad battery in them can go dead short. When you start the car, the battery in the siren starts to charge and can blow fuse 3 when the nicad is duff, which had happened. A new siren now fitted - the part number supersedes up the final 2016 Defenders!
