I am at the point of making a decision on the manifolds and exhaust.

I had a chat with Ian at RPi. It seems I might be looking at overhauling the whole set-up:
-Hedman manifolds
-S/S Exhaust with Cats
-Tornado chip

Has anyone done the whole package in one go? Just wondered how easy it was changing the chip and the results?

I had a search on here and lots of differing opinions on a few systems. Limited options, but this does seem to be a good offering to help the engine breath. Just wondered how good the chip was out the box..

I had the whole set, Headers, Chip, Cam, rebuild to 4.6lt etc by RPI last year. - very pleased with the results although took a little while and a couple of visits to settle everything down.
Ended up booking a session with MechTech on their rolling road with Mark Adams in March to setup the whole lot- 6 hours later, Lamba sensors, plugs, lots of noise etc. resulted in 270hp and a very happy chap.

Sounds good. I'm just convincing myself to do the whole lot, as opposed to just the manifolds, then chip. As I'm keeping it, with no intentions to sell, I should just do it justice and replace the lot. Looks like the extra spends will mean the suspension refresh will just have to wait...

I have decided to just renew the manifolds and knock sensors for the moment. See how it runs.

It's not a TVR after all, and I just wanted to replace bits with improvements. The chip seems a bit overkill for the moment. When the exhaust is rotten, I will look to update as and when. As always, the list is endless and you can go on and on...

my advice do the lot in one go.. the chip is the key to the other mods as it sets the fuelling and ignition to maximise the uplift in performance gained from the other mods, if you don't do the chip you might as well not bother!

I did mine in one hit and WOW you will not be dissapointed!

I ordered the hedman manifolds and full stainless steel exhaust from RPi. Just waiting for that to arrive and will see how it sounds when fitted!

Just to finish the thread on my side. Collected from RPI after having the manifolds, s/s exhaust and chip fitted. Wow. It's like night and day.

The response is instant now and mid range, very noticeable on the motorway coming back. The power is all the way through and keeps pulling. Turns out mine still had the 4L chip, so replacing with the correct 5L mapping has released what it should've been!

A big thanks to Ian and team at RPI. Fantastic job and well worth it.

Cold Idle issue = seems my thermostat was knackered, along with the 4L chip, so not helping things. Replaced thermostat with a 74, and seems to be all sorted.

Yeah, that's mine on their FB page. A few pictures up there showing the system. It gives a lovely deep rumble now but not over the top.

Hi Rob,

I had mine up there a few days, just because I decided to have the Tornado chip put in when it was there, and that had to be ordered in.

I think these were the prices on the exhaust:
Hedman Header mild steel tubular manifolds (modified to fit 50th) £345.00
Pr Knock sensors and fittings £170.00
Full stainless steel exhaust with cats £1,185.00
I'm not sure on fitting costs, as I had a few other bits all done at the same time.

Have a chat with Ian at RPi, or even drop them an email

If you check the Defender50th or RPi Facebook pages, you should see a video clip a friend of mine posted of my 50th.
