This thread is to show asking prices for 50ths - currently. As and when more 50ths come along, they will be added. I would be grateful if you would send me a PM if I have missed one. This thread is not just to see what 50ths are being valued at (to sell) but also for insurance values. If you make a claim for a total loss, your insurance company will obviously try to pay out as little as possible. They won’t be too keen on listening to your protestations about it being collectible, and therefore its special value above and beyond that of an ordinary Defender 90. However, it is possible to get an ‘agreed value’, and Adrian Flux do this. As well as the agreed value, they also look at what similar vehicles have been sold for, so it’s essential for us to be able to point them in the right direction should such a disaster happen, and your 50th is a total loss. If you can fill in any details that might be missing from the following list, then please PM me.

Current average value - ASKING PRICES (average of those for sale and sold since May 2016) circa £28,000
4 currently for sale. See bolded ones below
A search finds many '50th for sale' ads are the same car. Plus, there are ads showing 50ths for sale when they have in fact been sold long ago. The Trovit ads are particularly annoying.
This list does not include those from Nene, unfortunately (who do not advertise their prices), so I cannot add their asking prices, nor anyone else's who don't put a price or a GB number on their ad. Some '50ths' for sale turn out to be diesel and manual! Be wary of any ad that doesn't show a GB number. It could be a Japanese import, or just a normal Defender dressed up. There is even a Defender being advertised as a '50th' at a dealer's on ebay when it quite clearly isn't! The GB number is key...ask what the GB number is. If it doesn't have a GB prefix then it isn't a British 50th. That's nothing against non-British 50ths, it's just that the GB ones are obviously valued higher.

To compile this (from April 1st 2017) I will only list 50ths for sale that are advertised on this website. The 'usual' sites, like AutoTrader, Ebay, and Pistonheads work too crap for me to properly ascertain what 50ths, if any, are available. Pistonheads is too slow, AutoTrader is a pathetic joke, and Ebay just isn't reliable. All the other sites are either showing 50ths that aren't any longer for sale, or their 'search' facility is non-existent. Current 50ths for sale are bolded below.

A little note on values:
The Defender 50th Anniversary is the best Defender ever made. There are perhaps only 192 left in the UK out of the 385 that were made (there isn't a GB013). The prices will likely only go UP not down. The prices of normal Defenders are forever going up, and the 50th will follow suit. The insurance underwriter, Footman James, recently reported that Defender values (NOT asking prices, but values) have risen by an astonishing 43% in the past year! I get emails telling me that sold prices are very often close to the asking prices and, in one case, the seller could have got MORE. As a potential buyer, you may find the values annoying, but as an owner, you'll love the fact that you have a car that you can enjoy, and doesn't lose value (a rarity, indeed). You may 'think' the 50th is over-valued, but asking prices and values are often reasoned out by owners, based on previous and current prices...a car is worth what someone will pay!

Defenders are for a particular type of man (and a few women) who don't mind their utilitarian design and manufacture. However, Defenders often also appeal (how shall I put this politely?) to men who don't usually get their shoes dirty. They are the 'sort' who will usually drive a Range Rover, Discovery, or even Evoque...and they want a bit of rough. Ordinary Defenders aren't for them, and so the 50th, with its auto box and air con, is the Defender of choice. If you like Defenders, then you'll love the 50th. But if your introduction to Defenders is the 50th, then you probably wouldn't like an ordinary Defender. The 50th is, without any doubt, the best Defender that's ever been made. Their dwindling numbers will push their appeal, and their value, upward.

Remember, don't be put off by a 50th that needs attention. It can all be put right with money! Decide how much you want to spend based on reality, and not what you'd like to spend! When you see what you like, be quick. There are a LOT of lurkers on these pages, who keep quiet and keep coming back daily to see if there is a new addition to the For Sale section (and this section). I know, I was one such lurker once. If you've seen one for sale, so have many others who may have the money readily available to the seller.
