Adbseries3, a Tracker is essential if you park up your 50th anywhere. I box mine in every night with two cars, and we have a secret security device covering our driveway. There was a report in a newspaper last week of the huge increase in stolen Defenders - since production ceased. There's also something you can do when you park up, and if you PM me I'll tell you what it is. As 50ths are now commanding extraordinary prices, you should all contact your insurers and ask what you'd get if it was stolen and not found. I'm on Adrian Flux, and I think I'm right in saying that for a fee (including a report and photos) you can name an insured price, but I'll be checking that myself when mine comes up for renewal in a couple of weeks.

Defendersarebest, Indeed, that was why I made a point of saying that it makes sense to have it restored first. A £10,000 50th (even with a restore price of £20k) means that it's worth a minimum of £30,000, so it makes sense to restore any tatty 50th. I don't think this applies to good ones though, as you start to drift into it being uneconomic.

I got the idea that Albert bought both of those 50ths, if memory serves, but I'm sure he'll confirm. It would be nice to have three, like he has. Have them all restored and you could make a financial killing!

I deal with a lot of 50th owners who have or are in the process of buying a 50th for a future investment .
They are fetching big money now . I have my finger on the pulse as I source 50th for customers .
there have been a few 50th that have sold for seriously low money but I bet the people who have purchased them will soon double their money as they then decide to sell for a good profit.
These are sellers who don't really know what they are selling and opportunists cashing in . I would if I found one that cheap .
There are say 160 of these machines now left and being a motor in such limited numbers now and having serious heritage behind them too and the classic car market is raising at a silly rate it's no wonder the price of 50ths is going up too.

My mate sold a 911 SC turbo with 140k on the clock in poor condition for £58000 the other week .

As to the price of restoration there is no limit to what a customer requires on their wish list or what state the 50th is in to restore correctly so each 50th is individual as to the cost .
If any one can find some one restoring them to my standard cheaper than me with the photographic evidence to prove the process is done correctly and not cheaply I would be very shocked .

The question of 50th prices always comes up when they come up for sale for years now but with all the moaning going on its not stopped them increasing and the 50th owners surly can't be unhappy with their 50ths going up in value ?

I own 191, 242 and 131 and bought them for no other reason than I'm a defender addict as anybody who knows me will testify.

They were all bought very quickly after advertising and were for sale by their owners for various reason that I won't go it to for privacy reasons. They all wanted quick cash sales and we're all happy with the prices received. What I will say is they were all sold at extreamly low prices especially 131. I'm still not sure what I'm doing with them tbh one is being driven by my Dad and the other has just been through a ton of work and the other sitting in the workshop. I may sell 1 of them for profit and I will not be ashamed to make profit on any of them, profit isn't a dirty word.

I would value them as follows

191 - 99000 miles lpg, elec window, Central locking good condition £20k
242 - 70000 miles newly refurbed(not to SD standard) totally original £22k
131 - 64000 fsh absolutely mint condition totally original £28k

I know I'm sitting on a retirement fund if I gave them to Simon for restoration but I would need evidence of a refurbed selling for £40k before I would be tempted to hand them over, in the meantime I'm just going to enjoy them and listen to the V8 windows down radio off.

Barry, thanks for your offer of guidance on security, I will pm you. On prices, I missed out on 4 or 5 all of which I would have paid more for than the actual selling price (Albert has 2 of them!). in the end I had to overpay a bit for the one I bought that is now with Simon, although luckily seems like a decent one. As I am keeping mine forever the price matters a little bit less, and every other car I have has lost money in it's first week whereas I doubt this has. I think there is money to be made on these but I am not a trader so would only get it wrong! Can't wait until mine is done, hope you get what you want for yours Jim, let us know.

As ever supply & demand - its only worth what someone is prepared to pay - and who knows what that will be - like houses the price is a guide, its not a forced sale situation. Watch this space we may all be surprised. However it doesn't mean our own vehicles will be worth that amount. As I said - right person right time and what THEY are prepared to pay. Next buyer won't be the same!

Hi Tim

This one took Simon just on 2 months give or take.. times vary depending on how crusty the original condition is (PL take note ) and you can go as far with the restoration as your wallet & wife will let you!

Very random..

I had a phone call out of the blue this morning from a French chap who had seen my defender advertised on a specialist car forum in france..
it would appear one of my potential buyers has started advertising 165 BEFORE he bought it!

Upon googling the GB number to find out more about the vehicle he found this forum and one or two others and discovered my phone number!
